Records consist of photocopies of miscellaneous items relating to old-time fiddlers in Montana, including play-lists and competition results for the National Old Time Fiddler's Contest in Weiser, Idaho, and Montana competition at Polson; records of Lillian Young; and a biographical sketch of Frank Gallagher, state champion at the Ronan fiddler's contest in 1955, written by Frances Gallagher Keith. Records consist of photocopies of miscellaneous items relating to old-time fiddlers in Montana, including play-lists and competition results for the National Old Time Fiddler's Contest in Weiser, Idaho, and Montana competition at Polson. In addition there are records of Lillian Young's band "Lillian and the Younguns" playing for the annual Foresters' Ball at the University of Montana and other items. Of special interest is a biographical sketch of Frank Gallagher, state champion at the Ronan fiddler's contest in 1955. (SC 2480)

Montana State Old-Time Fiddlers Association was founded in 1963. The association was incorporated in June 1974 and remains active. It offers events, activities and educational opportunities for musicians and listeners of all ages. The association offers regular Sunday afternoon get-togethers, an annual Montana Fiddle Camp, and the Montana State Fiddle Contest, in Red Lodge each July.
